ONE LOOK by Paul Kirby [CD]

“삶으로부터 녹여 낸 신뢰와 균형, 기쁨의 소리”

2022년 1월 7일, 재즈 피아니스트 Paul Kirby Trio의 두 번째 앨범 <One Look>이 발매된다.

스코틀랜드 출신의 피아니스트 폴 커비는 이미 11년째 한국에서 활발히 활동 중인 실력있는 피아니스트로써 정평이 난 연주자이다.2015년 첫 번째 음반 <If Not Now>를 독일에서 발매하고, 6년여만에 내는 이 앨범은 특히 국내에서 정식 발매되어 한국팬들과 만나는 첫 앨범이기에 많은 국내팬들의 기대를 모으는 작품이기도 하다.

이번 앨범 <One Look>에서 그는 정갈한 그만의 터치와 스윙감을 포함한 여러 집중된 그루브를 선보이는데 기본적으로 간결하며 경쾌하고 밝은 사운드는 듣는 이로 하여금 시대의 우울감을 순간 떨치고 미소짓게 할 만큼 긍정적인 에너지를 선사한다.

캐나다 출신의 베이시스트 Sean Drabbit, 한국을 대표하는 드러머 김민찬이 함께하여 더욱 퀄리티 높은 음반으로 탄생하였다.

My second trio album, “One Look”, represents some of the music I've written and the bond I've made with these incredible musicians over the past four years. Any groove that Sean and Minchan play always inspires me to find beautiful melodies so these songs come from the way they play and think about music, and the music we all love together. Energy, focus and joy are key parts of what we are trying to do and the trust we have for each other, onstage and off, hopefully comes across in the playful moments we shared in the studio.

The title, “One Look”, comes from that moment you first see someone one day and can instantly see whatever is going on in their lives. Other songs are inspired by our shared everyday human struggle, eg. “There Is A Will” and “Resolve” and others look to cats for an answer: “Catting” and “Bombi” for my own cat. 제 두 번째 트리오 앨범 <One Look>은 제가 작곡한 음악들을 통해 지난 4년동안 함께 해 온 놀라운 음악가들과 맺은 유대감을 표현하고 있습니다. Sean과 Minchan이 연주한 모든 그루브는 매번 제가 아름다운 멜로디를 찾는 데 영감을 주었습니다. 그렇기에 제 앨범의 곡들은 그들이 연주하고 음악에 대해 깊이 생각하고 우리 모두가 사랑하는 다양한 음악을 공유하는 데서 함께 나온 것이라고 할 수 있습니다. 에너지, 집중, 기쁨은 우리가 음악 활동을 하며 지향하는 핵심 가치입니다. 무대 안팎에서 멤버들 간의 신뢰가 어떻게 쌓여가고 있는지 이 음악을 통해 느끼셨으면 합니다.

원 룩(One Look)이라는 제목은 어느 날 누군가를 처음 본 순간 그 사람의 삶에 어떤 일이 벌어지고 있는지 즉시 볼 수도 있다는 점을 느껴 쓰게 된 곡입니다. "There Is A Will"과 "Resolve"를 쓸 때는 우리가 공유하는 일상적인 인간의 투쟁에서 영감을 받았습니다. 또한 어떤 이들은 반려동물인 고양이의 움직임에서 답을 찾기도 합니다. "Catting"과 "Bombi"가 제게는 이러한 해답을 제시한 곡들입니다.  스윙 안에서의 직선, 단순함과 복잡함, 평화롭고 극적인 것 사이의 균형을 즐기시기 바랍니다.
